Once upon a time, there was a little girl with a sense of innocent charm about her, such that all the adults around her felt a strong sense of affection and drive to care for her. Her grandmother in particular doted on her ever since she was born, gifting her a strong red cloak as she turned 4 - a bold color for the bold woman that the grandmother hoped she would grow up to be, but also a signal of power to everyone around her and a visual marker so her family would find her if she had ever gotten lost. The little girl, upon receiving this gift, attached herself to it wherever she went - and came to be recognized as "Little Red Riding Hood" by all those who knew her, and Red by all those who loved her, as we do.

[[11 year old Red wakes up on a fine autumn morning...|2]]Red's mother called Red inside from playing with her pet rabbit.
"Now Red, I have a carrot cake and a bottle of wine for your grandmother. It's important that this gets to her very soon - I just received word that Grandmother is stuck in bed with the cold, and she needs taking care of. I know she'd love to see you - can you go over and deliver the treats?" her mother asked.
Red responds...
[["Yes, of course! I'd love to see Grandmother - maybe she'll give me a KitKat!"|3a]]
[["Can't I do it later, Mother? I was playing Leap Frog with my rabbit and I wanna go back to that..."|3b]]"LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD!" *thwack* The sting of her mother's slap is acute.
"Don't you dare talk about your grandmother like a chore! She does nothing but love and cherish you, and this is how you repay her? Show her some respect and go do it!"
As Red guiltily mumbles sorry and steps through the door, her mother adds, "Make sure you come back by sundown, and stick to the trail - there are a lot of things, both alluring and dangerous, in the forest."
[[And so Red sets off on her walk...|4]]Her mother beams. "Thank you, Red! Please take the treats and please come back as soon as possible - I don't want you walking alone at night, and the forest can become quite scary." Red nods, says goodbye and sets foot out the door.
[[And so Red sets off on her walk...|4]]As she walks, Red hears a rustling coming from the woodlands nearby. She looks over, and sees a gruff woodsman carrying a load of chopped timber and firewood. He stands tall and burly, with a bushy beard and an axe strapped to his back. Red recognizes him, as she happens upon him on many walks - but she has always stayed away, finding him scary and threatening. Her mother warned her against interacting with strangers too much. However, with how much they've crossed paths, he seems almost familiar - not like a stranger at all, but an acquaintance with a kind face that keeps to himself.

[[Red calls out, "Good afternoon, sir! I remember seeing you around a lot and I thought I'd finally say hello. Hope you're having a pleasant day!"|5a]]
[[Red keeps walking and hope he doesn't notice her...|5b]]The woodsman looks over, seeing a somewhat-familiar little girl with a red cloak, and stares at her for 5 seconds – almost evaluating her. He greets her, albeit gruffly, breaking into a slight smile.
"Hello. You must be Little Red Riding Hood. Where are you off to this afternoon?"
"I'm going to my grandmother's! She's feeling sick, so I thought I'd bring over some treats and see her to keep her company for a little bit. She lives just through this forest on this trail," Red replies.
"I see - I hope your grandmother feels better. I should warn you that there is much danger on this trail, especially as night comes, so keep an eye out, alright? The forest can be a suspicious place, so those who traverse it should be suspicious to match."
Red nods and smiles, but the woodsman isn't fully sure that she understood.
[[Red keeps walking...|5a-6]]The woodsman hears a rustling and his ears perk up. He glances over, seeing a semi-familiar girl in a red cloak. The woodsman assesses her briefly and then goes back to carrying wood to his campsite.
[[Red keeps walking...|5b-6]]Red comes across a wolf, who approaches her with sweetness and innocence.

"Indeed!" Red replies.
"Wonderful! Well, I wish you all the best on your travels." The wolf bids her farewell.

Meanwhile, the wolf jets to Red's grandmother's house. He knocks at the door, and her grandmother calls out "Red? Is that you?"
"Yes, it's me! I have your treats!" the wolf squeals, in his best impression of an 11-year-old girl. Red's grandmother invites him in. He creeps up stairs silently, and as he approaches the bedroom, his eyes peer through the door left ajar. Barely a second passes, and the wolf rushes into the room and cleanly swallows the grandmother whole. He then opens up her wardrobe and dresses up as her, laying down in her bed - laying in wait for Red.
[[Red rushes over...|5a-9]]Red makes a beeline and arrives at her grandmother's house, and knocks on the door. "It's Red, Grandmother!" she calls out.
"Oh dear, please come upstairs!" her grandmother responds. She beams upon seeing Red, greeting her with a lot of love, and they feast on the treats that Red brought with her. They talk, Red cares for her, and she walks back home by sundown unencumbered by obstacles. Her mother greets her with a smile and a kiss on the cheek, and Red goes to sleep happily.
Meanwhile, the wolf lies in wait at town... for no one to come. The more the wolf waits, the more annoyed he gets. "WHERE IS SHE?!" he exclaims angrily as he paces around. That was a misstep, as it catches the attention of the royal guard patrolling the town, who easily subdue and capture the wolf, relegating him to a life of service as a guard dog.

Once upon a time, in the woods of an enchanted forest, a brother and sister named Hansel and Gretel lived in a little hut with their father. Their father was a very poor woodcutter who had lost his wife due to mysterious circumstances. Their father decided to get companianship from another woman after being lonely for so long. Both Hansel and Gretel did not like their father's new girlfriend, and complained to their father about her. However, this fell on deaf ears, and Hansel and Gretel were fed up.
<img src="https://epistleofdude.files.wordpress.com/2018/12/hanselgretel.jpg?w=640" alt="Hansel and Gretel's Hut">
But let us take a step back, into the past to understand how we even got here. How did this woman enter their lives and what was her story?
[[Diving into the women's past...|wPast]]//We are in the past, in the mind of the woman herself//
“It’s finished” I shouted, in excitement. I had just built my new house that was made of candy, and I was so proud of it. People often referred to me as a wicked witch, but I wanted to prove them wrong by building a house made out of candy. I didn’t have any friends because everyone thought I was ugly and cruel. I am just a little old lonely lady who has to live with no friends in the middle of a forest. It is heartbreaking.

“How will I ever make that much money again?” I wondered to myself. I had used all my money to build my huge three storey candy house.
[[Should I go dig for treasure in the forest?|forest]]
[[Should I go to the market and try and sell these magic beans I have?|beans]]I decided to go and dig for treasure out in the forest. So I took my shovel and my sack and went deep into the forest. I started digging and digging but I couldn’t find any gold.
I wondered what I should do next.
[[Give up and go home.|home]]
[[Keep digging.|dig]]I walked all the way to the market hoping to sell these magic beans. Unfortunately, no one seemed interested in buying them, and honestly I had no clue what these beans even did. I just created them one night in a drunken stupor as I was making potions.
A boy walked by with a cow. I asked "Hi boy, how would you like to trade your cow for these magic beans? They will bring you a lot of fortune."
The boy replied "Oh yes that sounds great!"
I felt bad for the boy but needed the money that I would get from selling this cow.
I gave him the beans and then stayed at the market to try and sell the cow. No one seemed interested in an old and sickly cow.
I decided to...

[[Give up and head back home.|home]]
[[Stay at the market to sell the cow.|cow]]I decided to give up and go back home when I heard the sound of wood being chopped. I followed the noise until it lead me into an open clearing. There I saw the man of my dreams. He was chopping wood and didn’t notice me.
<img src="https://www.lizstoryplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/story1-300x225.png" alt="Woodcutter">
I am very shy. I did not know how to approach him.
[[He looked up and saw me...|woodcutter]]I kept digging to no avail. There was no gold to be found and I was back where I started, an empty sack and shovel in my hand. I realised I actually had the magic beans with me. Since I had spent all this time digging this hole, it might be worthwhile to drop the beans in here and see what grows.
I planted the beans and covered the hole, making sure to add some water from the river nearby. I proceeded back home.
[[Next day..|nextDay]]I stayed for a few more hours, and no one even passed by. I decided it was time to go home.
[[Go home|home]]He walked towards me and then it was love at first sight. He told me that his wife had died and that he was taking care of his two children, Hansel and Gretel, by himself. He took me back to his house and introduced me to his children. As soon as I walked in I knew that they didn’t like me. They had evil glints in their eyes and that made me feel very uneasy.

I wanted to...
[[Leave now and escape these evil children.|leave]]
[[Stay and convince their father to get rid of them.|stay]]I immediately left.
"Where are you going?" the woodcutter yelled.
My intuition is strong, and given my magical background, I could sense that these children were nothing but bad news. I decided to take the journey back home.
(set: $left to 1)
[[Finally going home!|journey]]After a few weeks we got to know each other better and soon after he asked me to move in with him. I knew the children disliked me. They thought I was going to replace their mother who passed away and they didn’t want that. I dragged the woodcutter away to speak with him urgently.
“I don’t think we have enough money to take care of the children. I think you should leave them in the forest” I whispered to him. I didn’t like Hansel and Gretel and I knew they were bad and that it would be difficult raising them.
“But I can’t!” yelled the woodcutter.
“You have to, they are evil!” I shouted back.
I then decided to...
[[Leave immediately.|leave]]
[[Use magic to force him to leave his children in the forest.|magic]]With a little sprinkle of mind control magic he finally agreed with me and the next morning he took Hansel and Gretel into the forest, to leave them there.
I decided to go back to my house and live there by myself because the spell had worn off. The woodcutter was as depressed as he was heartbroken at the separation from his children. I ‘borrowed’ some of his gold and money. I left him and headed towards my house deep in the forest. I was hoping that I wouldn’t see those demon children, Hansel and Gretel.
[[But from the woodcutter's perspective...||intersect1]]It was quite a long journey before I found my house. Some animals were eating it so I had to drive them away. It took me another day to make repairs to my house so that it would be perfect again.
(if: $left is 1)[I took a look in my crystal ball to see what my fate would have been if I had stayed with the children. All I saw were flames.

My foresight abilities definitley saved me.
THE END]
(else:)[It was a good thing that I took some of the woodcutter's gold and money. Once I earned more money and learnt better magic, I would reward him for his sacrifice for leaving his loved ones in the forest.
Should I worry about Hansel and Gretel being in the forest?
[[Yes! I will make a magic barrier to protect myself.|barrier]]
[[No, they won't be able to find this place anyways since they were left so deep in the forest.|sleep]]
]
I decided to cast a magic barrier around my house so that no animal or person would be able to come near it.

(set: $barrier to 1)

(else:)[[[Wake up the next day.|danger]]]I woke up and looked outside. It was unbelievable! A giant beanstalk had grown, and it started raining gold! My money troubles were solved!

I get to live happily ever after!
THE END
I woke up with the barrier still strong and intact. It was time to make something of myself and be proactive! I am determined to share my candy with everyone, and repair my reputation. No one is going to call me a witch anymore!
THE ENDI woke up early the next morning because I heard someone munching. I went to investigate and then I saw something that I would have never expected. To my utter shock, it was Hansel and Gretel eating my house of candy!
(if: $cow is 1)[I was shocked to see that my cow that I bought from the boy and was unable to sell, had been cut open, with its insides flowing out. Hansel and Gretel looked at me with bloody grins.]
“How did they survive the forest? How did they get past my magic barrier? They really must be demon children!” I exclaimed to myself. I would have to get rid of these children but first I wanted to...
[[Teach these kids a lesson about greed.|greed]]
[[Lock them up in the house so they can't hurt anyone again.|lock]]I wanted to teach them a lesson. I masked my face with some magic and walked towards the children.
“You children must be starving. Come inside to have some more candy” I said, trying to put a smile on my face. My plan was to overfeed them to teach them a lesson about gluttony.
Hansel and Gretel’s eyes lit up and they ran into my house. I could hear them eating everything inside. I had to stop them.
I realised I could only do this by locking them up. They were too dangerous to be free.
[[Lock the children up!|lock]]“Those kids will wish they never messed with me” I muttered angrily. I went inside and used my magic to lock up Hansel and Gretel in a candy cage before they could do anymore damage. They weren’t expecting this.
“Hey let us out you witch!” Hansel and Gretel whimpered in fright.
“I’m sorry but I have to teach you about respecting your elders, you little greedy brats” I shouted fiercely.
I kept feeding them until they grew super fat and immobile. I was hoping that this would weaken them and their evil powers.
<img src="https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/nondisneyvillains/images/d/d0/4.jpg" alt="Hansel and Gretel tied up" style="width:800px;height:600px;">
After a few weeks of this, they seemed harmless. We had even chatted and I could no longer feel any animosity from them. I was thinking about what I should do with the children.
[[Keep them locked up in the cages!|survive]]
[[Let them go free.|death]]I told the children they would stay locked up.
Hansel and Gretel smiled back menacingly and droned in unision "You better let us out or we will kill you just like we did to our mother".
I took a step back, shocked. I was right all along. These children were evil, and luckily I had taken the precautions to prevent them from being free in the world. I knew I had to find a permanenent way to deal with this problem.
I heard a sound oustide.
[[I opened the door to-|splat]]The children were very fat and seemed harmless, so I was going to let them out of the cage. I opened the cage and they waddled around slowly.
"Do you guys want a roast chicken for dinner? I can get one prepared and cook it in the oven!" I said.
The fat children smacked their lips and shouted "YES!"
I opened the oven to put the chicken in but was strongly pushed into it, the door closing behind me. I was very scared. Those sly little brats must have been biding their time to gain my trust, and kill me when they had the opportunity.
“Let me out, let me out!” I screamed. I looked thought the oven and I saw Hansel and Gretel. I had one last glance at them, laughing with their devilish grins, as the world turned black.

As the woman fell, the woodcutter stepped into the house and walked to the cages.
"Hello my children, guess it worked again! Another woman falling for our trap. Are you ready for the next one?" the woodcutter beamed.
"Yes father, we are ready" the children replied. "Who is next on the list?"
"Next on the list is a girl, barely your age. She's dressed in your favorite color, and has a sickly sweet view of the world." said the woodcutter.
"Perfect, we do love the color of blood." whispered the children. "Who is this girl?"
"Little Red Riding Hood."
[[Together, the happy family venture back home, excited for their next endeavor...|regroup]]The woodcutter, morose, whiles away his day staring into space and chopping wood - business as usual, but with a void where the company of his children used to be.
On one such day, the woodcutter goes out on a "chopping spree". After hacking away at a number of fir and pine trees north of his cottage, he walks back through the woods to his home, when he hears a childlike humming from the nearby trail. His heart lifts at the sliver of possibility that he may find his kids on that little winding road, and he walks over to investigate - only to find a little girl in a red cloak, skipping along with a canvas tote in hand.
[[But who is this little girl?|Exposition]]The woodcutter has regained inspiration by Red's infectious goodwill and energy. His mind drifts to the only other children that truly matter to him. As he stares off into space, he ponders:
"Hansel... Gretel... I cannot wait to see you again..."
[[Meanwhile, we re-enter the mind of the witch...|journey]]The woodcutter stepped into the house and walked towards the gleaming children.
"Hello, my lovely children - it seems it worked again! Another woman falling for our trap. Are you ready for the next one?" the woodcutter beamed.
"Yes father, we are ready." the children replied.
[[Together, the happy family venture back home, excited for their next endeavor...|regroup]]The next evening, the woodcutter and his children are all sitting around the fireplace, poring over a list of notes, strategy diagrams and steps. On the very top, emblazoned in the red letters of berry ink, are the words:
"Operation Red Rum."
Outside the window, the landscape has changed. Against the vibrant gradient of sunset and the silhouette of the forest stands a new addition to the ecosystem - a large beanstalk, looming above them and visible for miles upon miles.

(if: $jack is 1)[Unbeknownst to them, however, a character we have already seen perches atop the beanstalk, exploring the mystical creation that his magic beans have sprouted. If they cared to squint their eyes and see further into the distance, they would see our friend Jack atop his beanstalk.]
[[The next morning...|topofthemorning]]We see two groups make their way to the beanstalk, both for vastly different reasons.
One is our beloved Red, eager to see the variety of new flowers that may have appeared around the new addition to the forest.
<img src="https://naccnaca-eventimages.s3.amazonaws.com/5200/redriding-hr__large.jpg" alt="Red Riding Hood Walking">
The other is Hansel, Gretel and their father the woodcutter. Their mission is twofold - to anyone that stops them on the journey, they are making their way to the beanstalk to "spend some quality time together". In a sense, this is true - they have been separated for a long time. What an observer may not know, however, is that their idea of "quality time" involves a little dead riding hood.
Even homicidal families need bonding time, after all.
[[At the base of the beanstalk, they all meet...|baseofbeanstalk]]"Hello again!" Red calls out to her friend, the woodcutter. As she walks closer, she notices two chubby children, eyeing her and licking their lips. How hungry they must be, she thinks to herself.
The children make eye contact with Red. "Father! I spy with my little eye, a little red victim," Hansel says. Instinctively, they lick their lips, drooling at the thought of the kill they are about to partake in.
"Father, Hansel and I are going to go //explore//. We know the plan - Operation Red Rum in effect," Gretel says to the woodcutter, and they run off around the beanstalk.
[[The woodcutter walks over to meet Red...|base2]]"Red! Such a //pleasure// to see you again. I'm here with my children - those little rascals went off to play on their own when we're meant to be here for family time," the woodcutter says, a glassy smile plastered on his face.
Red gleams. "Your children are so cute! I'm here exploring too - you know of my love for flowers, and I thought I might be able to find some varieties I'd never seen in my life around this new beanstalk. Where did this come from, anyway?"
"Beats me! Actually, I noticed a truly wondrous flower patch around the southwest side of the beanstalk. It's but a few minutes walk from here - I'd be happy to accompany you," the woodcutter offers in a sweet, cloying tone.

As Red hears this, she feels a strange sense of deja vu. For some reason, she recalls the woodcutter's words about strange, dangerous things in this forest. She isn't sure why, but this offer makes her feel uneasy.
[[Red smiles, but politely declines. "I'll just come back another day."|rumble]]
[[Red beams and nods her head, skipping towards the southwest side - with the woodcutter in tow...|agreetogo]](if: $reddead is not 1)["Argh, how did the plan not work?" the woodcutter exclaims in frustration.]
Meanwhile, a rumble descends on them from overhead. A boy is leaping from leaf to leaf through the clouds, and he appears to be running away from something. As they get closer, a thundering voice bellows from above...

[[The boy lands on the ground, only to find...|base3]]Red and the woodcutter arrive at the southwest side of the beanstalk. "Hold on, I'm not seeing any flower patches anywhere here. Are you sure this is the right place?" Red wonders.
"I'm fairly sure... look around a bit more. I'm sure we're close," the woodcutter replies from behind her. Red begins to get an uneasy feeling - isn't the woodcutter meant to have a good sense of direction, being in the forest all the time? Of course, this giant beanstalk DID only appear yesterday, Red thinks.
Red feels a slight gust of wind...
[[Red turns her head to find the flower patch...|littledead]]
[[Red instinctively darts to the left...|avoided]]All of a sudden, Red feels a strong impact that throws her down onto the ground. Two fat little bodies are pinning her to the grass, and she hears the heavy, slow thumping of the woodcutter's boots towards her, and the //whoosh// of metal in the air.
"Uh oh... looks like Little Red is a little dead," Hansel giggles.
Red's head rolls away from her body when the woodcutter brings his axe down onto her neck. Red has been beheaded.

THE END!... Red, staring back at him aghast, as the woodcutter and his two children prowl towards her. "Who are you, and what is going on here?" Red yells frantically. "Jack... Why are you not running?" They are breathing heavily, and Jack clocks the axe in the woodcutter's hand, and the bloodlust in the family's eyes. [[Jack catches a breath...|grabaxe]]The woodcutter's axe lands with a //WHUMP// right next to Jack's feet. Jack grabs the axe, and ducks under a giant beanstalk leaf as the giant searches for him.
"FEE, FI, FO, FUM! I SMELL THE BLOOD OF A VICTIM OF RED RUM!" the giant roars.

Jack looks at the thick stem of the beanstalk beside him, and an idea sparks while the axe suddenly feels heavy and powerful in his hands.
[[Jack gradually chops away at the beanstalk, until...|killgiant]]With one final powerful swing, Jack slices cleanly through the beanstalk. Jack yells, "TIMBER, YOU GIGANTICALLY STUPID OAF!" as the beanstalk topples over. The stalk lands on the giant, killing him.

[[Jack stands frozen, contemplating what just happened...||arrest-end]]
[[Jack panics, rushing to his home as fast as his legs can carry him...||therapy-end]]The knights of the royal guard, patrolling the area, investigate the massive beanstalk that appeared out of nowhere and fell, seeing Jack with an axe in hand and dead bodies everywhere. They arrest Jack & he is held in jail, allowed only visits from his mother.

However, the only reason she ever comes is exclusively to slap him for losing the cow at the market.
THE END!Jack stumbles towards his house, panting - part from the run, part from the adrenaline at having made it away alive. He charges through the door. "MOTHER, YOUR FAVORITE BOY IS HOOOOOME!" he exclaims jovially.
His mother comes down, and Jack grins (or grimaces?) at her with his arms spread in a triumphant yet trembling stance, still shaken from the adventure he had.
//THWACK!// The sting of his cheek is palpable as his mother slaps him hard across the face. "YOU LOST THE COW?!" his mother screams.
That night, he is not able to sleep. The very next day, he heads into town to talk to an actual therapist about the crazy things that happened.

The End!Jack quickly approaches the woodcutter, knowing that the giant is merely a few feet away. Jack is nimble and fleet-footed, but the giant considerably less so. He dashes away at the last second...

[[Jack catches a breath...|grabaxered]]The woodcutter's axe lands with a //WHUMP// right next to Red's feet. Red sees the axe, and snapshots of her storied history with that weapon flash before her eyes in split seconds. She knows what she must do, and grabs the axe. Her eyes meet with Jack's own frantic eyes darting between her and the giant.
"FEE, FI, FO, FUM! I SMELL THE BLOOD OF A LITTLE RED RUM!" the giant roars.

Red looks at the thick stem of the beanstalk beside her, and an idea sparks while the axe suddenly feels heavy and powerful in her hands. Red nods, mouthing "trust me". Jack's eyes light up, and he nods back. Red brandishes the axe, and yells "RUN!"
[[Jack runs...|redchops]]Jack goads the giant, who continues to follow him. Red ducks under a giant beanstalk leaf and starts chopping away at the stem.
(if: $redsaxe is 1)[The weight of the axe in her hand felt familiar, and seemed to move automatically with every swing. She hacked away at the stem as her eyes stung from the tears of her savior's betrayal.]

[[With one final, powerful swing...|redkillgiant]]Red slices cleanly through the last fiber of the beanstalk's stem. The beanstalk slowly sways, picking up speed as it topples towards the ground - landing on the giant and crushing him.
[[Red looks at Jack...|victory]]Red and Jack celebrate their victory with a relieved, panicked and passionate embrace - as new friends and battle-worn comrades. They head home, clasping each other's hand like an anchor.
Fast forward: they eventually realize their love for each other and get married. Jack becomes a farmer, and Red, ironically enough, becomes a woodcutter. They live happily ever after - until Snow White and her seven dwarves enter the picture...
